S.Massenza

Distilleria Poli Francesco

Located in the heart of Valle dei Laghi, between Trento and Garda lake, Santa Massenza represents a borderline and, just like a border has to be, it unifies and connects two different territories: the southern climate meets the continental one, the Mediterranean vegetation lives together with Alpine species, making this area incredibly unique. In this little village, where wine and distillation traditions are passed down generation after generation, is located the Azienda Agricola and Distilleria of Francesco and Alessandro Poli.

Five generations of tradition and customs are preserved and passed down year after year, enriched by new technologies, but always respecting the family heritage.

Alessandro Poli shares now a century of history with his family. Since 1998 the vineyards are cultivated with biological methods.
Bio-dynamic techniques and formulations are used, which improve the soil fertility and keep the integrity of vines and grapes, so that the wines are real expression of the territory.

The wines

  • Grappa Santa Massenza Bianca 700ml – N/V

dessert A careful selection of Trentino wine marc give birth to Grappa “Santa Massenza” and to Classica Chiara: mellow, with good texture and rich of taste. During this refining period the grappa gets softer and rounder, allowing a presentation around 50°.

  • Grappa Asperula 700ml – N/V

dessert Obtained by infusing woodruff plants in Grappa from selected blends of marc from Trentino, which are distilled separately in Bagnomaria pot stills and subsequently mixed. Woodruff is a perennial herbaceous plant that is directly harvested by the distillery in June and July, before flowering. Woodruff gives to the Grappa a delicate and fresh flavour.

  • Grappa Ginepro 700ml – N/V

dessert Obtained by infusing juniper berries in Grappa from selected blends of marc from Trentino, which are distilled separately in Bagnomaria pot stills and subsequently mixed. Juniper is a plant from the conifer family and gives the Grappa an aromatic and persistent taste. The berries are harvested directly by the distillery during the summer and autumn months in Trentino.

  • Grappa Ruta 700ml – N/V

dessert Obtained by infusing rue leaves in Grappa from selected blends of marc from Trentino, which are distilled separately in Bagnomaria pot stills and subsequently mixed. Rue is a wild plant from the Rutaceae family that is harvested directly by the distillery during the summer months, before flowering. The rue gives the Grappa a slightly bitter balsamic taste.

  • Grappa Cremulo 700ml – N/V

dessert Created by cold infusing the tops of mountain pine branches, which are rich in buds, pine cones and resin, in Grappa from a blend of selected marc from Trentino, which are distilled separately with the Bagnomaria pot still method and subsequently mixed. The mountain pine (Pino Cembro) is a plant from the conifer family found beyond 1200 metres above sea level. The mountain pines give to the Grappa the scent of the forest and an intense, slightly resinous flavour, as well as balsamic qualities.

  • Aquavite di Pere 500ml – N/V

dessert To make these fruit distillates, the first step is to put the pears through a fermentation (spontaneous, using indigenous yeasts) similar to that of winemaking. They then distil this fruit wine twice using a baine-marie method in custom made small copper stills, this distils the fruit wine at a low temperature, very slowly. Though this method is time consuming it extracts the maximum amount of flavours and aromas. The first part of the distillation contains toxic methyl alcohol and the last part of the distillation contains undesirable elements such as seed oils and other unpleasantries. These parts are therefore discarded and what is left is the clean and pure heart of the distillato. Intensely dominating aromatics in this distillato convey both fruity and floral characteristics concecntrating on pure ripe William pears. The aromas and flavours bring amazing pleasure in their simplicity and purity.
